CBCP strikes again.

8 12 2011

I have just an article about the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) objection towards the anti-discrimination bill. This is just sad. Being gay or lesbian is not of their choice. They can’t help it if they fell for the same gender. Besides, some ‘handicapped’ handicapped themselves to ask for alms in the streets. It was their choice. Not all poor people are poor by choice. Some just laze around and wait for cash from their OFW relatives. Another example would be having minimum wage and having more than 5 kids. How could one sustain them accordingly? It was their choice to have that many kids.

Another CBCP lawyer Jo Imbong said the LGBT (lesbians, gays, bisexuals, transgender) should not be considered the same as the elderly, the handicapped, and the poor.

“These people are disadvantaged not by their own choice. But the third sex, they choose this. How can you give protection to a choice like that?” Imbong said.

I don’t see why anyone should discriminate the LGBT. What wrong had they done? Being perverts? Well, there are also perverts among the straight community. You don’t see them being discriminated. I’ve read somewhere that the bible never said anything about the gay people (1).Why condemn them? There are religious LGBT people there, too. Although maybe not many because the church condemns them. Another thing, I thought the church forgives people of their faults. If the church sees being gay as a fault, why not forgive them? Forgiving them would not mean they would miraculously change. But, same goes with some straight sinners. They may still do it again.

Ronald Reyes, a lawyer of the CBCP, said they had no qualms about the bill before but became concerned when the bill was amended and “sex, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity” were included.

“It’s opening the door for same sex marriages, which our country doesn’t allow,” Reyes told reporters.

Regarding the excerpt above, he sort of got it wrong. This country doesn’t allow same sex marriages not because the country doesn’t allow it, but because the Catholics won’t allow it. Why strip the LGBT of their happiness? Imagine the possibility of more orphans being adopted and finding themselves a happy home, too. It’s a win-win situation. Wouldn’t you want that? It’s how I see it anyway.

Well yeah, this article is just sad. This is why I stay away from religious narrow-minded people. I have catholic/religious friends, but they would not go to the extents of excommunicating them nor even ‘unfriending’ them. The CBCP could propose adding a fine line to the bill if they want; stating priests don’t have to pay if they do not want to wed same sex couples. Of course, that would still be discriminating someone. But, at least they will not have to pay a fine or be jailed.

(1) I haven’t read the whole bible, so I could be wrong. I thought I’m giving Catholics a favor for not reading it because I see it as a story/history book. o_o;

“From EDSA to Cory Aquino Avenue?” wait… what?

24 11 2011

A lawmaker has filed a bill that seeks to rename Epifanio de los Santos Avenue (EDSA) to Cory Aquino Avenue in honor of the late former president.

EDSA is historic for being the site of the 1986 People Power Revolution that toppled the dictatorship of Ferdinand Marcos and paved the way for Aquino’s presidency.

“It would be but a fitting tribute to former President Corazon Aquino, woman of courage and valor, that EDSA, an avenue that became testament to the country’s love of democracy, be named after her,” said author Bohol Rep. Rene Relampagos in the explanatory note of House Bill 5422.

EDSA, the main circumferential road and highway of Manila, was formerly known as Highway 54, representing the 54-kilometer stretch of the avenue. It was then renamed for Filipino historian Epifanio delos Santos in 1959 through Republic Act 2140.

The bill, which is now currently pending before the House committee on public works and highways, seeks to repeal the republic act.

Relampagos also noted that EDSA should be renamed after the late president because one cannot think of the 1986 EDSA Revolution without thinking of Aquino.

Politicians should seriously stop making bad decisions and kissing-up to the president. If they changed the name of the fricking major road, what good will come out of it? Will it help the country’s economy? Will it help the traffic in that avenue? No. It’s not like the future generations will ever forget the name of Cory Aquino. That name is engraved in our history books. lol. Now who remembers who EDS(A), Epifanio de los Santos, was? So maybe he didn’t lead a revolution, but he did contribute in education. Education over revolution, yes?

Given that EDSA is a historic site, so, why change its name? It’s like saying changing the name of Malacanang Palace to ‘Pnoy’s Pad;’ or Intramuros to some bishop’s name because the historic churches and the CBCP office are in there. -_-; With that, how about changing the country’s name, too? 8-|

Dear politicians, let’s all be real now. Sure it can be hard to be a politician, but you guys/girls were elected/given/got those positions to help and serve our country for the better good of our country—not yours. It is part of your job description. If you peeps didn’t even want those positions, why are you even there? You could resign and give it to those who would do a better job. Please reflect on your actions.

Boo for Hollywood on Taal Volcano Island

20 10 2011

Original article see here

My initial reaction after reading this article:

I’m face-palming mentally right now. Why on earth are you going to ruin the image of an already iconic natural wonder by putting an obvious sign? Most politicians, if not all, are already neglecting our local heritage buildings, city planning and the like; but I guess messing up a natural site would be alright. How did they discuss this in office???

“Hey! People often mistake the volcano being part of Cavite, and not of Batangas. Any suggestions? Oh wait, I know! We should put a 14meter high and 110m wide of the word BATANGAS on the volcano! All in favor?”

What the @&#%!? Why would you do that? Maybe because you want cash and the easiest way to get cash is make a project, then after receiving budget, keep half of them or more. lol. Troll harder. I can’t see how it would be “a dazzling sight especially if lit up at night.”

Imagine taking a picture on the ridge with the scenic view of the volcano— with the giant word BATANGAS. THE OUTPUT WILL BE CRINGINGLY GHASTLY! The fricking layered Batangas word on the picture in the said article already looks bad. To put this in another perspective, imagine Mount Rushmore with a huge sign of South Dakota (or Arizona..?); Mount Vesuvius with Naples; or even Mount Fuji, Honshu! The mountain and volcanoes that I have mentioned are famous landmarks to their respective places. They don’t need a sign to say where they are. That’s why they are called icons or landmarks.

Yes, many mistake Taal Volcano as not part of Batangas. I was one of them. However, there must be other ways on conveying to the public that “these you see here are part of Batangas!” without disrupting the view. Slightly off topic: The picture they used is also a bad choice— pixilated much? Try Google images next time. There are loads there.

I sincerely hope they would consider NOT implementing this. This project would be just a waste of tax payers’ money. Maybe they could instead take care of the Taal lake. After the whole fishpen fiasco last time, are they sure that it will not happen again? I have not heard of any news regarding any output. Or they can maintain the Taal Volcano island itself. I myself have not step foot on the island yet, and if I ever do, I sincerely hope that I wouldn’t see any form of unnatural trash lying almost anywhere and not in their proper containers. Unnatural trashes meaning wastes that are not supposed to be there like plastic wrappers.

A Labrador’s Rebellious Stage

16 09 2011

Cookie is our 2 year old border obese, but healthy, Labrador. In human age, she’s in her teens (14 yrs. old). I don’t know where we have gone wrong on raising her; she’s in her rebellious stage. Her ‘stealing’ dad’s slippers and sometimes socks are nothing new. We do reprimand her most of the time. But, tonight, she did the worst crime ever!

She went through my things!!! BLOOD WAS SPILLED IN EVERY INCH OF OUR ROOM!!! Okay… So I’m exaggerating. Only styro fillings and cotton balls were littered everywhere. I did close the door of our (shobe and mine’s) room. So the other only possible way to go in our room is through the connecting bathroom from the master’s bedroom. hmp. Smart dog………. (⌐.⌐)

The crime scene:↓↓↓

first scene from the door

my poor bed =(( Yes, I love stuffed toys and irregular-shaped pillows.

Ups and Downs

27 08 2011

Last time, I said I have ordered my Yes is More from powerbooks. :D So, based on the first sentence, I have obviously gotten it today~!!!^_^

The cover is sooooo prettyyyy! I have randomly scanned a few pages, and it is very interesting! :D

Finally! A sort of happy book! been reading depressing books to the point that they had almost affected my mood T.T (Paris Vendetta, Game of Thrones (still not finished:on hiatus), and Emperor’s Tomb (still not finished: progressing well though); then top it with a dream that someone precious to me had died. yeah. very depressing. -_-;)

So yeh~ The book (+ dinner+dessert with achi&shobe&achi’s ‘friend’) were my highlights for today~!

The downside of the day… I lost my phone T.T more like… someone had pick-pocketed it. hay humanity! Why are you like this!? Kinda my fault that I brushed off achi’s advice. She told me to hold my phone or put it inside the bag. I just said that it’s fine cause it’s in my (front left) pocket, and my bag is on my left shoulder, too. Apparently, I have underestimated those kinds of criminals (-_-);

Well as they say it locally: Kapag gusto, maraming paraan; kapag ayaw, maraming dahilan. [If you want something done, you try to think of numerous possibilities to make it happen; If you don't want to do something, you think of numerous reasons why you don't want to do it.] <_<

I couldn't say today was bad or good… I guess it's balanced? o_O The phone predicament was irritating/annoying/sad, but the book and the dinner+dessert had made it better. LOL What a way to start the long weekend o_o; (We don’t have work next week on Monday and Tuesday because one of ‘em is the end of Ramadan, and the other is the National Heroes Day. I wonder if we would still get our whole salary for this month with those holidays.. haha I’m hoping though o_o;)
