This so true! I can’t remember when my blockmates and I started having these kinds of conversations. I think the first time I noticed was when we were eating breakfast in a fastfood restau (third year college?). We talked about the interior of the restau then the entire structure; then discussing about the neighboring buildings of the mentioned restau.
When Joker and I were hunting for jobs together this passed summer, our conversations were 80% archi-related (20% everything else- people we know, people we don’t know, documentaries, sitcoms, magic, etc.). I remember we were talking about this documentary [Ancient Aliens] which was cut-short by this proposed building of Apple designed by Sir Norman Foster and assoc. We never got back to the first subject again. =))
When we don’t understand why a certain piece was placed at a certain place that didn’t seem necessary, we conclude them as ‘conversation piece.’ Something for the people, not necessarily archi-related only peeps, but also to everyone; to talk about. ^^; I guess it can be good for first dates. <_< to quench that awkward silence? =))
Announcer lately messaged in our group that we haven't talked to each other since forever, then posted an article about a building in Hong Kong in hopes of talking to each other again. lol
Anything architecture-related has become a staple subject. Just so those who can't relate know, we don't talk only talk about this btw.
