South Korea Sneak Peek 3: Architecture stuffs in S-E-O-U-L

6 05 2012

Third part~~~ Previously, I said that I would not be sharing most if not ALL architecture-related pictures… but apparently, there are just plenty of interesting stuffs to share! :D I can’t help it.

There are a lot of fun and quirky buildings in South Korea. They make me wonder what the designers’ concepts or stories were to create the facades. I can’t really say much for Busan though. We only had a limited time to explore the city. But then again, Busan is a more laid back city compared to Seoul.

Surprisingly, when I wanted to wander around the vicinity of COEX and Gangnam, Achi was the one who accompanied me. Dad stayed inside COEX and the Paris Baguette instead. Same goes with Ma and Shobe. I bore them (ma and shobe) to death sometimes. XD

Anyway… let’s start with one of Seoul’s famous landmark:

Namsan Tower

Clockwise: the exterior shot of the tower, a shot from Teddy Bear Museum, the famous love-locks, and the view from the observatory.

The climb up to the observation deck+teddy bear museum is a bit pricy though… but the view of the city is pretty. =)

Wong Fu Productions in Manila

22 03 2012

This is an overdue entry (along with many other pending entries). I planned on blogging this the night after the event…but somehow had procrastinated until now. Haha. Anyway…

The day I started working in new office, I found out that WongFu Productions were coming to Manila (March 1)! I was ecstatic. Happy! Overjoyed! Wait. Am I really going? Hmm. Where will the event be held? I opened ticketworld for the location and found out it will be at Greenhills Music Museum. My heart stopped.

Why?

It’s because my new working place is just a few meters away from Greenhills! I could just jump out of the window and be there already! … okay not really. It’s a 4-5minute walk. But still. I decided that I will definitely be going! This was a great chance/opportunity. I should not waste it. So…Ta-da~~~!

Modern Architecture Game

1 02 2012

The next coolest board game ever! It’ll be a classic. =))

But really, I’m very interested to know/play this game. haha.

Today was my first day in new firm! I like it so far. :) Sure, the distance doubles the distance of former firm, but it is worth it. Fascinating people, I like. ^^ よろしくお願いします!!!

My work is from 830am to 6pm++. Who said architecture is only an 8hour job? Besides, time flies when you’re having fun. …Or when you are meeting a deadline. haha… But, yeh. I like this. more interaction with everyone. =^^=

South Korea Sneak Peek 2: Archi stuffs Busan

31 01 2012

Second part~~~! I almost got carried away by sharing ALL architect-related pictures. Yeah… that wouldn’t be called “sneak peek” anymore…

We weren’t really able to explore Busan much. We only stayed there for 2 days and technically 1 night. The first night was not included because it was already around 10pm when we arrived at our hotel. Then we hurriedly went to korail to catch our train for Seoul. Must come back here! haha.

Yongdusan Park

Clockwise: Yongdusan Tower (route near Busan Hotel) | the stilt structure which is the washroom | tree lined sidewalk/road

The stairway is actually a long climb up. It was fun to look down from the top step. :D It feels as if I’m so high up! Read the rest of this entry »

Architecture and Civil Engineering

19 01 2012

Who can sign architectural plans? Who can sign structural, plumbing, etc plans? If civil engineers are knowledgeable of construction, why can’t they be granted to sign architectural plans? If architects are knowledgeable of building technologies, materials, structural details, utilities; why can’t they sign those plans? Or better yet, why can’t the 2 professions just respect each other and work harmoniously? I’m asking too much, huh.

The Court of Appeals has granted the appeal of PICE (Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers) to reverse the previous decisions of the Regional Trial Court. This was about the “preparing, signing, and affixing the seals on plans for submission to Building officials as a requirement for a building permit.” The said plans include the vicinity map/location plan, site development plan, perspective, floor plans, elevations, sections, etc. – in short, architectural plans.
