My initial reaction after reading this article:
I’m face-palming mentally right now. Why on earth are you going to ruin the image of an already iconic natural wonder by putting an obvious sign? Most politicians, if not all, are already neglecting our local heritage buildings, city planning and the like; but I guess messing up a natural site would be alright. How did they discuss this in office???
“Hey! People often mistake the volcano being part of Cavite, and not of Batangas. Any suggestions? Oh wait, I know! We should put a 14meter high and 110m wide of the word BATANGAS on the volcano! All in favor?”
What the @&#%!? Why would you do that? Maybe because you want cash and the easiest way to get cash is make a project, then after receiving budget, keep half of them or more. lol. Troll harder. I can’t see how it would be “a dazzling sight especially if lit up at night.”
Imagine taking a picture on the ridge with the scenic view of the volcano— with the giant word BATANGAS. THE OUTPUT WILL BE CRINGINGLY GHASTLY! The fricking layered Batangas word on the picture in the said article already looks bad. To put this in another perspective, imagine Mount Rushmore with a huge sign of South Dakota (or Arizona..?); Mount Vesuvius with Naples; or even Mount Fuji, Honshu! The mountain and volcanoes that I have mentioned are famous landmarks to their respective places. They don’t need a sign to say where they are. That’s why they are called icons or landmarks.
Yes, many mistake Taal Volcano as not part of Batangas. I was one of them. However, there must be other ways on conveying to the public that “these you see here are part of Batangas!” without disrupting the view. Slightly off topic: The picture they used is also a bad choice— pixilated much? Try Google images next time. There are loads there.
I sincerely hope they would consider NOT implementing this. This project would be just a waste of tax payers’ money. Maybe they could instead take care of the Taal lake. After the whole fishpen fiasco last time, are they sure that it will not happen again? I have not heard of any news regarding any output. Or they can maintain the Taal Volcano island itself. I myself have not step foot on the island yet, and if I ever do, I sincerely hope that I wouldn’t see any form of unnatural trash lying almost anywhere and not in their proper containers. Unnatural trashes meaning wastes that are not supposed to be there like plastic wrappers.
